About FreeBPMFinder
FreeBPMFinder is a free online BPM and key finder. Drop in a song, let it listen through your microphone or a browser tab, or tap along, and it tells you the tempo and key in seconds.
Why we built it
FreeBPMFinder was built by Nikhil, a singer and guitarist who kept running into the same problem: most BPM finders upload your music to a server, push you to sign up or install an app, and only give you half the answer. We wanted one fast page that gives you the BPM and the key, works on a phone, and never takes your files anywhere.
How it works
The analysis uses your browser’s built-in audio tools. To find the tempo, the tool detects where new sounds begin, finds the interval at which that rhythm repeats, and converts it to beats per minute. To find the key, it measures how strongly each of the 12 notes is present and compares that with every major and minor key. All of this runs on your own device, and nothing is uploaded or recorded.
Our principles
- Free for everyone. The site is supported by ads, so it stays free with no limits.
- Private by design. Your music never leaves your device.
- Honest results. We show a confidence rating and alternatives instead of pretending every answer is certain.
- Plain English. Our guides explain tempo and tap tempo without jargon.
